Welcome to my series 7 Reasons Why I Am Vegan (and so could you)! In honour of Veganuary I will publish everyday on the first week of January 2018 from Monday 1st to Friday 7th, and by the end of the week I will explore all the motives that compelled me to choose this lifestyle. As I mentioned before, I believe in the power of information and even if you feel like this is not for you, you might end up discovering something you didn’t know and make a more informed choice going forward.
If you don’t think saving animals lives and water is enough to compel you to switch to a vegan lifestyle, how about saving human lives?

“The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that one in nine people were suffering from chronic undernourishment in 2014 - 2016. There are 11 million people undernourished in developed countries”. And 795 million people went to sleep hungry, that’s a larger number than the populations of the U.S. and Europe combined!
You might ask: how is being vegan saving human lives? Well we are currently growing enough food to feed 10 billion people, however worldwide, at least 50% of grain is fed to livestock. 82% of starving children live in countries where food is fed to animals, and the animals are eaten by western countries.

So we are feeding animals destined to be killed before feeding our own kind. "If all the grain currently fed to livestock in the United States were consumed directly by people, the number of people who could be fed would be nearly 800 million". That is why the UN says agricultural production will have to rise 60% to feed the extra 2 billion mouths in 2050. However there is no international mechanism to regulate or alter collective human diets, and no models other than famine that have ever worked. So it's up to the singular individuals to take matters in their own hands and choose what is best for the whole world community. Why is nobody talking about this? Why are we letting 795 million people starve, when we could save them all by just stopping animal farming?

After researching online on the main website concerning world hunger,
none of them mention eating less meat as one of the ways to help redistribute the food around the globe.
And yet with a vegan diet you save 1,200 lbs of grains each month and 14,600 lbs each year. Each month you could save enough food to feed a person for almost 5 months.
